BAnSci (Hons), BVSci (Hons), MVS Epi Intermediate SNM
Katrina graduated from Melbourne University in 2002 with a Bachelor of Vet Science and Animal Science and has completed her Master's Degree in Vet Science in Epidemiology at Massey, with research in the area of heifer mastitis.
Having worked in clinical dairy practice at Anexa Animal Health in Waikato for ~ 5 years, Katrina took on a new role as Herd Health veterinarian for the business. This role was an advisory position in herd-level milk quality, reproduction, and lameness. Her reproductive advisory work utilized DairyNZ’s InCalf programme and data analysis skills she developed through her Master's qualifications. She moved into the Headlands team in 2011 to provide a more holistic set of skills to the farmers she was working alongside including; financial, environmental, and whole farm systems consultancy. Katrina was a consultant with the Matamata-Piako MP3 project from 2015-2018 and has undertaken the intermediate nutrient management course and training in Dairy NZ's sustainable milk plans. She is keen to challenge the farmers she works alongside to do things better. When she isn’t doing this, she is busy spending time with her husband and 3 daughters in the Peria Hills, actively involved in all aspects of the local community.
"Being a vet my philosophy is very much about starting with the cow and the people. Being born on a farm, I am also interested in the long-term stewardship of the land. I believe if we focus on the cow, the people, and the land then we can achieve great results for the farm business and the future industry." - Katrina
